About Carolyn Heijn Peth:
Growing up without close extended family, I never heard family “remember when…” stories around a Thanksgiving table. When I asked my parents, “Where’s our family from?” I readily accepted the reply, “Oh, you know, honey, we are English, Scottish, Irish, and Dutch.” Years later, after my parents’ deaths,  I stumbled across a yellowed transcription of my great grandfather’s obituary. I suddenly was filled with insatiable curiosity to find the stories of all those who came before me. That is when I discovered the world of genealogy.
To find those stories, I needed to become a better researcher. I attended many free classes offered by the local FamilySearch Center. I took part in the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG) for five years and took online classes from Boston University. I have watched countless webinars and engaged in numerous workshops. I have completed all the available Genealogical Education Programs (GEP) offered for members of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR).
In 2010, I became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. I have proven 24 patriots for myself and have assisted over 125 DAR members with their applications and supplemental applications. In 2014, I was selected as California State DAR as Outstanding Volunteer Genealogist-Second Place. I have applied to and have been accepted by 20 Lineage Societies.
